Palilula Municipality urges citizens, especially the voluntary blood donors, to respond to a voluntary action of typing - GIFT LIFE, which will be held in Nis on Saturday 09.07.2011 in the House of the Army of Serbia (from 09am to 6pm). Typing will be taken from peripheral blood of individual according to applicable ethical standards, peripheral blood donors will sign informed consent.

With this activity we help to our young citizen Tomislav Cvetković (a 34 yr.) who suffering from acute leukemia type B (B-91.0 CCLC). He was treated in Nis in 2008 30 months and after 6 months since the last maintenance treatment leads to relapse. Tomislav has married with Jovana, who is a doctor of medicine and in the fifth month of pregnancy. As in our country exhausted all treatment options based on HLA typing is no coincidence in the parents, neither his two brothers, the patient is the only option remaining shares of finding matching donors, stem cells and to the ages of 18 and 55. Action typing citizens of Nis will be carried out under the direct leadership of Prof. Dr. Nadezda Basara, Director of Internal Clinic Hospital St. Franciskus in Flensburg, Germany.

Action of typing is fully supported and financed the cost of typing by SMS Stiftung, Germany and hospitals St.Franciskus Hospital (Hospital where on his own expense Tomislav currently treated). Thanks to the initiative Administration Hospital in Flensburg (Director, Dr. Ulter and especially Prof. Dr Basari etc.) as well as personal engagement graduate engineer Branislav Basara and staff of SMS Stiftung, will be able to get through the process of typing, which will be included over 1000 voluntary donors, find matching of not family donor for allogeneic transplant of hematopoietic stem cells.

This campaign aims to raise public awareness about transplantation and donation of organs and tissues, to increase the number of donors and reduce the length of waiting for organs and stem cells for transplantation. It means hope for transplant patients in the only form of treatment.

How is the current treatment protocol, stem cell transplantation is the only form of treatment and the only chance for longer survival, within action of typing in the patient's home town, Nis, fully support the University of Nis, Faculty of Medicine, Clinical Center Nis, especially the Department of Hematology and Immunology, Assembly of Nis, City Municipality of Palilula and a number of voluntary donors who are expected to respond to this action.
